Managing Group or Personalized Memberships with the 5 Space Limit

If you offer different memberships for groups, teams, or students, you may traditionally create a separate Space for each membership tier. Since access in MemberSpace is controlled at the Space level (not individual content items), this has been the standard setup for organizing different protected content experiences.

However, with the introduction of the 5 Space limit, some creators may want an alternative approach that uses fewer Spaces while still offering separate content access for different groups.

Alternative Setup: Use One Space with Hidden Folders

Instead of creating multiple Spaces, you can:

  1. Create a single Space
  2. Organize content into separate folders inside that Space
  3. Hide those folders from public navigation
  4. Share direct folder links with the appropriate members

This allows you to stay under the 5 Space limit while still separating content for different memberships or groups.

How It Works

Step 1: Create One Main Space

Set up a single Space that will contain all of your protected content.

Step 2: Create Separate Folders for Each Group

Inside the Space, create folders such as:

  • Team A Resources
  • Student Cohort 1
  • Premium Client Materials
  • Agency Training

Each folder can contain the content specific to that group.

Step 3: Hide the Folders

To prevent all members from browsing every folder, make the folders hidden within the defined Space

When someone purchases or joins a membership give them the direct link to their assigned folder.

Once logged in, they can access the folder directly using the provided link.

Important UX Difference

This setup works differently from the traditional multi-Space experience.

With separate Spaces:

  • Members can visually browse and open their available Spaces
  • Access feels cleaner and more personalized

With the hidden-folder approach:

  • Members cannot visually browse to their content
  • They must use the direct folder link you provide
  • The experience is more functional than polished

Because of this, the hidden-folder method is best for creators who:

  • Need more than 5 content groupings
  • Want to minimize Space usage
  • Are comfortable managing access through shared links
